HARVEST THE SUN

FARMERS FOR SOLAR

FARMING & SOLAR

NOS

Sowing the Seeds of Solar

Farming has always been about the weather, the land, and the sun.  Good farms and farmers are always adapting, to make the most out of what is given.  Solar farms are a temporary land use that can work collaboratively with agriculture.  Farmers for Solar supports landowners having the opportunity to host solar.

Multi-Use

A solar farm can be designed as a multi-use facility, which will allow continued agricultural activities within the solar facility area.   Multi-use allows for the continuation of agricultural activities in a more economically sustainable manner.

Supporting Farmers

A farmer can add solar to their property and get steady income allowing them to reinvest in the farm. This temporary use will preserve the underlying agricultural land.  Responsible solar development can improve soil health, retain water, nurture native species, and produce food.

Saving Farms & the Planet

Solar panels provide clean, green energy.  Solar is a complementary activity to agriculture. It maintains traditional use of the land, while generating new incomes to the landowner and the community.   Solar facilities are a temporary land use and preserve agricultural land from other, permanent development.

SOLAR FARMING FACTS

FACT

Just the Facts

Farming has always had many challenges. Now there are more challenges than ever before.  Facts should drive decisions.

1

Solar is a complementary activity to agriculture. It maintains traditional use of the land, while generating new incomes for the landowner and their community.

2

Solar facilities are a temporary â€¯land use  that preserves agricultural land from other, permanent development.

3

Solar facilities create local jobs, generate local economic benefits during their construction and operation, and increase tax revenues while supporting farm  jobs.

4

Solar farms can be designed as a multi-use facility, which will allow continued agricultural activities within the solar facility area.

5

Multi-use allows for the continuation of agricultural activities in a more economically sustainable manner.

6

In New York State, agricultural land in certain areas of the State are protected under the Agriculture and Markets Law even when used for solar.

7

New York State requires the removal of all above-ground structures and restoration of areas previously used for agricultural production at the solar facilities' end of life.

8

Many studies have shown that there is no  impact  on  property values related to the presence of a solar farm.    â€¯

9

Unlike new housing developments, solar farms do not increase local population and so place no additional burden on local services provided by the community, county, and State.

10

Photovoltaic panels generate electricity using sunlight captured by special panels.

11

Solar projects are decommissioned at the end of their life span and the land is fully restored to its original condition.

12

A farmer can add solar to their property and earn steady income allowing them to reinvest in the farm. â€¯â€¯ â€¯

13

Solar energy facilities can incorporate pollinator friendly plants and beehives onto their sites.

14

Responsible solar development can improve soil health, retain water, nurture native species, and produce food.
